The Economic Value of Tiniguiban Cove Mangrove Forest

Introduction:

As of 2005, the mangrove forest of the province of Palawan is about 58,400ha, an increase from 50,602ha in 1992 which accounts for 4% of the province land area and roughly 42% of the remaining mangroves in the country (PCSD 2010)

Strategic Environmental Plan for Palawan (SEP) Law is a special for law Palawan. Environmentally Critical Areas Network (ECAN)- centerpiece of the SEP law-which is a system of dividing the towns and capital city into core zones, restricted, buffer zones, and multiple-use zones in order to maintain sustainable resource utilities (Arquiza, 1999)

  • Based upon ECAN-Zoning map of PCSD, the mangrove forest of Tiniguiban lies within the multipleuse zone making it susceptible to many threats üOne of the 66 Barangays of Puerto Princesa City.
  • Total population of 13,988
  • 2,798 households with an average member of 5 per family.
  • Land area of 350 hectares
